A cremation niche is an above-ground burial space where an urn is placed. These walls with recessed compartments are a popular, permanent location for cremation urns. The purpose of the niche is to give a family a place to visit their loved one's remains. They are available in multiple types of stone and various shapes and sizes.

A columbarium is a structure that contains many niches and can be added to a mausoleum or chapel or constructed as a stand-alone wall or building.
